L’application livrée en 2014 ne cherchait pas à raconter la fête : elle servait à rendre son information accessible pendant qu’on y était, et la localisation y occupait la place principale.The Fête des Loges is a funfair everyone in France knows, and it needed to gain visibility from one edition to the next. The app delivered in 2014 was not there to describe the fair: it was there to make its information reachable while you were on the spot, and location held the main place in it.

Le défi techniqueThe technical challenge

Une fête foraine occupe un site étendu, et le visiteur qui marche dedans a besoin de savoir où il est avant de savoir où aller. Un plan imprimé répond à la seconde question, pas à la première.A funfair occupies a large site, and a visitor walking through it needs to know where they are before knowing where to go. A printed map answers the second question, not the first.

La seconde demande portait sur la durée. La fête revient par éditions, et la visibilité gagnée pendant l’une devait servir à la suivante : il fallait que l’application laisse derrière elle une base de contacts, et pas seulement le souvenir d’une édition.The second requirement was about duration. The fair returns edition after edition, and the visibility gained during one had to serve the next: the app had to leave a contact base behind it, not merely the memory of one edition.

J’ai livré cette application en 2014, à un moment où la géolocalisation sur téléphone était encore un sujet délicat. Elle a été conçue pour rendre l’information de la fête accessible pendant la fête, et la localisation y a pris la place principale parce que c’était le besoin réel : se repérer sur un site étendu.I delivered this app in 2014, at a time when geolocation on a phone was still a delicate matter. It was designed to make the fair’s information reachable during the fair, and location took the main place in it because that was the real need: finding your way on a large site.

L’inscription à la newsletter n’était pas un ajout décoratif : elle alimentait la communication des éditions suivantes. C’est par là que l’application a servi au-delà de l’édition pendant laquelle elle était utilisée.The newsletter sign-up was not a decorative extra: it fed the communication for the following editions. That is how the app served beyond the edition during which it was used.
