Nuits Blanches a été l’une des premières applications mobiles réalisées pour une discothèque. Le besoin était simple à énoncer : faire connaître les soirées sans obliger les clients à passer par le site ou par la page Facebook de l’établissement.Nuits Blanches was one of the first mobile apps built for a nightclub. The requirement was simple to state: make the club nights known without forcing customers to go through the venue’s website or its Facebook page.

Le défi techniqueThe technical challenge

Un programme de soirées change plus vite qu’une application ne peut être republiée. En 2013, passer par une nouvelle version pour corriger une date était lent. Le contenu ne pouvait donc pas vivre dans l’application elle-même.A club-night programme changes faster than an app can be re-published. In 2013, going through a new version to correct a date was slow. The content therefore could not live inside the app itself.

La seconde difficulté n’était pas technique : il fallait que l’application donne une raison de l’ouvrir, alors que le site et la page Facebook existaient déjà et portaient la même information.The second difficulty was not technical: the app had to give a reason to open it, when the website and the Facebook page already existed and carried the same information.

Le programme des soirées à venir était alimenté depuis une administration, sans nouvelle version de l’application. C’est la décision qui a rendu l’ensemble tenable : la personne qui connaissait la programmation pouvait la publier elle-même, le jour où elle la connaissait.The programme of upcoming nights was fed from an administration area, with no new version of the app. That was the decision that made the whole thing workable: whoever knew the line-up could publish it themselves, on the day they knew it.

L’application portait aussi un lecteur audio. Le mix du mois y était disponible directement, et la retransmission d’une soirée passée pouvait être réécoutée depuis l’appareil.The app also carried an audio player. The mix of the month was available in it directly, and the recording of a past night could be listened to again from the device.

Ce que j'en retiensWhat I take from it

Ce que j’ai retenu de ce chantier tient dans la séparation du contenu et de l’application. Tant que le programme vit dans le code, il est faux dès qu’il change ; une fois sorti dans une administration, il redevient le travail de celui qui le connaît. L’application n’avait plus qu’à l’afficher.What I took from this project lies in the separation of content and app. As long as the programme lives in the code, it is wrong the moment it changes; once moved out into an administration area, it becomes again the work of the person who knows it. The app only had to display it.

Le mix du mois a été, je crois, la partie la plus utile. Un programme se consulte une fois ; une soirée qu’on peut réécouter se réécoute. L’inscription à la newsletter, de son côté, a élargi la base de contacts et facilité la communication par courrier électronique.The mix of the month was, I think, the most useful part. A programme is read once; a night you can listen to again gets listened to again. The newsletter sign-up, for its part, widened the contact base and made communication by email easier.
